NEW HOUSE GARDEN DESIGN

The Brief

This newly developed property had a complete blank canvas as a starting point with little more than a path and steps to access a newly laid lawn.

The key requirements here were the ability to enjoy several areas of the garden with a degree of privacy from neighbours, plus a covered area for working and relaxing.

The client wanted a garden that is interesting, but at the same time not too burdensome with maintenance.

The design should be bold and the planting both colourful and interesting for year-round appeal.

The Solution

Strong angular lines were at the heart of the garden design for this rather long and narrow plot, to lead the eye from side to side rather than straight to the end. The design created several zones within the space using paving material, lawn, pergola arches and planting.

The new garden now has up to three areas of seating, each with its own mood and exposure to the sun. The addition of pleached panels for screening helps to maintain privacy, as well as strengthening the sense of enclosure around the second seating area.

The planting scheme is seasonal and relatively easy to care for, with additional specimens and trees to add some volume.
