Large but easy to manage garden.
A Low Maintenance Solution For A Large Garden
Their existing garden was pretty, but also difficult for them to manage and expensive to maintain.
The existing garden is pretty but difficult to manage, as well as expensive to maintain.
The parking and entrance area needs to be defined and it should be more obvious where visitors should be led. Hardstanding paths and paved areas would also be preferred immediately around the property.
There are several specimen trees that should be included into the new scheme.
The first task was to reduce the amount of planting beds and remove some trees that were in very poor condition, whilst pruning and tidying the remainder. Although removing trees can sometimes be contentious, it was agreed that this was absolutely necessary for the garden to be manageable.
To counter this, we included a new planting scheme in the immediate surrounds of the property, that were flanked by hedging to define areas of interest. This helped define zones of the garden that will serve several different purposes.
The front of the property required new planting and hedging to replace the rather tired looking existing scheme that was climbing the walls and was also difficult to maintain. The new areas of paving provided a clean pedestrian access around the house and helped to define entrances. Materials that were both durable and sympathetic to the style of the property were chosen.
The addition of a large family seating area in the heart of the rear garden is accessed via a pergola walk that lifts the planting up to a higher level and adds some height and drama to the space.
This client now has a garden that is much easier to maintain and has plenty of planting interest around the property, which also maintains the best of the existing specimen trees. There are specific areas to relax and enjoy the garden as a family, along with easy to access paths linking the key areas.
The client was over the moon with the final result.
